On Wednesday evening I was in attendance at the Robert Parker Stadium (the home ground of Ashford Town), for inform PFC Victoria London’s home Middlesex County League Premier Division fixture with Indian Gymkhana. The game was an entertaining one, with PFC Victoria London winning 4-2 on the night, and it was a game in which I thought that the club who are vying for promotion to step six of the non-League system, deserved to win. During the early stages of the match PFC Victoria London started the better of the two teams. However, Indian Gymkhana took the lead early on in the game, after PFC Victoria London hadn’t cleared the ball away from their penalty area properly, this resulted in one of the away side’s forwards having a great opportunity to score the opening goal of the game, and he sent a good, looping header over the home goalkeeper, and into the goal. Indian Gymkhana has started the game well, and they did create a couple more chances, before PFC Victoria London responded by getting level in the game. A through-ball pass to the experienced and clinical PFC Victoria London centre-forward Paweł Kowalkowski inside the Indian Gymkhana penalty area, resulted in the 31 year old calmly lifting the ball over the goalkeeper, and into the goal, with only the goalkeeper in front of him.
A clever turn on the ball from PFC Victoria London’s number 11 resulted in him having a low effort from the edge of the Indian Gymkhana penalty area saved by the goalkeeper. A couple of minutes later and at the opposite end of the pitch, the PFC Victoria London goalkeeper made a really good double save from close range. Towards the end of the first half PFC Victoria London took the lead for the first time in the game, and it was Paweł Kowalkowski’s second goal of the game. After some good skill on the left flank, Paweł Kowalkowski received the ball on the edge of the Indian Gymkhana penalty area, and he hit an excellent, powerful effort towards goal, which hit the underside of the crossbar before going into the goal. The home side did have the opportunity to extend their lead before half-time, however, the score remained 2-1 going into the second half. The PFC Victoria London number 11 hit a volleyed effort wide of the Indian Gymkhana goal, during the early stages of the first half, before the impressive Paweł Kowalkowski controlled a long ball up the pitch, on the edge of the Indian Gymkhana box. He then found his teammate, the PFC Victoria London number seven, inside the penalty area, and he finished emphatically into the goal, with a powerful effort past the goalkeeper.
A long goal-kick from the PFC Victoria London goalkeeper resulted in the ball finding its way to the PFC Victoria London number 26 outside of the Indian Gymkhana box. The Indian Gymkhana goalkeeper had rushed out of his goal to try and get to the ball first, but the PFC Victoria London number 26 found the back of the goal from distance, with the goalkeeper off his line (4-1). Indian Gymkhana did get back into the game towards the end of the second half. The PFC Victoria London goalkeeper had to make a good one v one save inside his penalty area, before the Indian Gymkhana number 15 hit an effort wide of the goal, from the edge of the box. Then a couple of minutes later, Indian Gymkhana got their second goal of the game. An effort from the edge of the PFC Victoria London box, was turned home from close range by their number 15. The number 15 almost got his second goal of the game soon afterwards, after lifting an effort from the left side of the home side’s box, over the goalkeeper and just wide of the goal, before the Indian Gymkhana number 16 hit an effort wide of the goal from distance.
Indian Gymkhana did finish the game well, and after PFC Victoria London’s number 19 did really well to stop the number away side’s number 15’s good cross in front of the PFC Victoria London goal, the Indian Gymkhana number nine volleyed an effort over the goal, from inside the PFC Victoria London penalty area. This was a good game of football on Wednesday, with PFC Victoria London deserving to win the game, with my player of the match Paweł Kowalkowski, really playing his part in the win for the inform home side. However, Indian Gymkhana did well, particularly in the second half of the game.
