My piece on QPR Under 18’s FA Youth Cup fourth round tie with Burnley, at Loftus Road:

On Monday night I went to Loftus Road, to watch an FA Youth Cup fourth round tie between the QPR Under 18’s side and Burnley Under 18’s. In what was a fairly even game in regards to chances created, it was a clinical Burnley side who progressed into the next round of the prestigious competition, winning 2-0 on a cold night in west London. Although it was a fairly uneventful start to the match, it started to become a much more lively contest towards the end of the first half. QPR goalkeeper Conor Clark made a superb save from close range, to keep out Rohan Vaughan’s powerful effort. And in first half additional time, Burnley took the lead. After QPR had lost possession of the ball, Rohan Vaughan finished really well from inside the QPR penalty area, with a powerful effort into the roof of Conor Clark’s goal. Early on in the second half, Burnley extended their lead. It came from a Burnley corner-kick, which was delivered into the QPR box, from where Murray Campbell eventually managed to get onto the ball, turn and then finish low into the goal. Youssef Yahyaoui had a fine effort from the edge of the Burnley box, well saved by Burnley goalkeeper Lewis Forshaw. Before Rico Kennedy hit the woodwork, from a similar position on the edge of the Burnley penalty area.

Burnley did defend well throughout the game. However, after Ridwanullahi Hassan had missed a good chance for QPR, Rohan Vaughan hit the left post of Conor Clark’s goal, from inside the QPR penalty area. QPR had some more good chances during the remainder of the match, but Burnley were able to hold on, to win the game 2-0. Both sides played some good football, and for QPR, one of the players who impressed me was Youssef Yahyaoui. And for Burnley, their centre-forward Rohan Vaughan had a fine game up front. He scored a well taken goal, but he would also lead the line well. Burnley will face either Bristol City or Charlton Athletic (away) in the next round of the competition.
