Feltham FC 1-5 Camden & Islington United: (My match report from Springwest Academy)

Feltham FC faced Camden & Islington United in this Middlesex County Football League Premier Division fixture, at Springwest Academy (in Feltham) on Monday night. Feltham FC started this match in 17th place in the league. Fifth place Camden & Islington United, are a side inform, and they were looking to continue their recent good form, going into this league fixture. It was James Goldsmith’s Camden & Islington United side, who won this league match 5-1. Camden & Islington would start the match well, right from the very start. After Dwayne Reid had hit an effort over the Feltham goal, from distance, the away side would come close to taking the lead in the match.

Following a pass from Ryan Pickles, to Jerry Roque Visi, inside of the Feltham box, the Camden & Islington player had an effort on goal which was well parried by the goalkeeper, Jonny Williams, before Stephen Ojeda hit an effort just over on the follow-up. The chances kept on arriving for the away side, during the early stages of the first half. After Akhim Brown had just missed Charlie Surman’s low cross at the back post of the Feltham goal, Josh Gruby would hit an effort over the Feltham goal, from 20 yards out. However, Feltham would come close to taking the lead in the match, when Aaron Flower’s free-kick effort on the right side (edge) of the Camden & Islington penalty area, hit goalkeeper Ross Thursby’s crossbar.

Following on from Aaron Flower’s good free-kick effort, Daniel Kimpiob-Antale had an effort on goal (from distance) which was saved and held by Thursby. And then, a couple of minutes later, Pierre Gundrum would get to the ball on the edge of Ross Thursby’s box, before hitting a low effort just wide of his left-hand post. The influential Ryan Pickles would then have an effort from inside of the Feltham box, which was saved by Williams, before (at the opposite end of the pitch) Pierre Gundrum had spotted Thursby off his goal-line, hitting an effort from the half-way line wide of his goal.

Shortly after Charlie Surman had a headed effort following a corner kick into the Feltham box, which was cleared off the line by a defender, Camden & Islington would take the lead. It came from a corner kick which had been taken short, and Ryan Pickles would then deliver a low cross across the Feltham goal, from where Roshan Millwood was able to tap the ball into the goal, 0-1. Soon after their opening goal of the game, Camden & Islington would double their lead. Ryan Pickles would find the run of Akhim Brown on the left side of the Feltham box, and Akhim Brown would then finish well, with a low effort which went in off Jonny Williams’ left-hand post, 0-2.

The game continued to be played at a good pace during the remainder of the first half. After Josh Gruby had gone on a good run with the ball, to the edge of the Feltham box, before having a low effort which was saved by Williams, Pierre Gundrum would then have a low effort from distance, which was saved by Thursby. And then in what was the final chance of the first half, Aaron Petch had a good free-kick effort from a difficult angle, on the edge of the Camden & Islington box, which was well kept out by Ross Thursby, at his near post. Camden & Islington continued to be the better/more creative team, during the early stages of the second half. And following Akhim Brown’s effort from the left side of the Feltham box, which went wide of the goal, Camden & Islington would extend their lead.

Camden & Islington’s third goal of the night was created by Stephen Ojeda, whose fine pass found Adam Wurie on the left side of the Feltham penalty area, and it was from there that Adam Wurie finished well, into the bottom right-hand corner of the goal, 0-3. Camden & Islington’s effective and impressive passing game continued to cause problems for Feltham. After Akhim Brown had an effort from the right-hand side of the Feltham box, which was well saved and closed down by Jonny Williams, Camden Islington made it 4-0. Substitute James Briars would, after winning the ball on the edge of the Feltham box, take the ball into their penalty area before finding the bottom right-hand corner of the goal, 0-4.

Yet another impressive passing move from the visiting team would result in them creating a goalscoring chance. With the passing move ending with Kieron Craine having an effort from inside of the Feltham box, saved by Jonny Williams. A number of goalscoring chances would continue to be created by the away side, as the second half of the match progressed. A couple of minutes after Kieron Craine’s effort from inside of the Feltham box, went just over Jonny Williams’ crossbar, Jerry Roque Visi and James Briars, would both have efforts on the Feltham goal which were kept out by Jonny Williams.

The latter stages of the match would see quite a bit of action, in both penalty areas. Feltham would get a goal back in the game, after Aaron Petch had finished off a chance well, from inside of the Camden & Islington penalty area, 1-4. And then, following an effort from the edge of the Feltham box (from Kieron Craine) which went just over the goal, Kieron Craine would get a late goal. The impressive James Briars’ through-ball pass to Kieron Craine inside of the Feltham penalty area, was finished low into the goal, from the Camden & Islington substitute, 1-5. It was quite a one sided match, which Camden & Islington very much deserved to win.

Camden & Islington United player Akhim Brown, impressed against Stonewall in a league fixture last week, and he would once again impress for Camden & Islington, in their fixture with Feltham. He was my player of the match yesterday, and the player who started on the left flank and who scored an early goal in the match, was both creative on the ball and hardworking off it. Ryan Pickles impressed during the first half of the match by providing two assists, and the introduction of James Briars, during the second half, really helped Camden & Islington to make sure of all three points, such was his impression on the game. Also, Billy Doyle impressed in what was a well organised Camden & Islington defence. For Feltham, I thought that their goalkeeper (Jonny Williams) was their player of the match.
