Since the Essex Alliance Football League was founded in 2014, there have been some incredible goalscorers who have graced the league. In the following short piece I will write a little bit about three players who are right up there in terms of being some of the finest goalscorers during a single league season, in this particular league’s history.
Nelson Senkatuka: Ugandan international footballer Nelson Senkatuka, would score the most goals (45) of any player in Essex Alliance Football League history in a single season, to date. During the 2014/15 season, the centre-forward was playing for then Premier Division side Cranes United, during his time studying in England. Nelson would also play some matches for non-League side Erith & Belvedere, during his time in London. His very impressive total of 45 goals, from 34 appearances, will be very difficult to beat, and indeed his goal tally in a single season has yet to be beaten in the following seasons. The 27 years old professional footballer is currently playing for Ugandan Premier League side Bright Stars FC, and Nelson Senkatuka has won 12 international senior caps for Uganda, so far in his footballing career.
Chris Stowe: Back in the 2016/17 season, Chris Stowe would score an incredible total of 40 goals in the Essex Alliance Football League, for Colebrook Royals. The striker managed that amount of goals in a single season, from 16 appearances for that particular season’s Division One champions, Colebrook Royals. I think that this might be the same Chris Stowe, who played for non-League clubs such as AFC Hornchurch, Hampton & Richmond, and Margate, during his footballing career in non-League.
Tamás Rétyi: Last season (2023/24) Tamás Rétyi would score 42 goals for Philip United, in the Premier Division West of the Essex Alliance Football League. A former Hungarian Under 18 international, from Budapest, Tamás started his footballing career as a left-back, and after an impressive start in academy football in Hungary (he featured in the UEFA Youth League, as an academy player), Tamás played professionally for clubs such as Kelen SC and Dabas-Gyón FC, in Hungary. Since joining Philip United, last season (2023/24) for their first ever season as a club, Tamás Rétyi has been a hugely important player for the east London club, and as well as scoring 42 goals from a hugely impressive number of games last season, he continues to impress for the current Senior Division leaders. Now playing as a forward, Tamás Rétyi has so far scored 12 goals and provided four assists from 15 competitive appearances this season, for Philip United.
