Edson Lami is a tremendous player and captain of step 6 Thurlow Nunn League First Division South side, FC Baresi. From Angola, and a player who played at a good level in Portugal, for clubs such as Eléctrico, and Alcanenense (Edson was a teammate of Turkish international footballer Merih Demiral, at Alcanenense) Edson has so much experience in football. Previously a forward (he once scored 35 league goals in a season for former Essex Alliance Football League side Wanstead FC), Edson Lami currently plays in central midfield for FC Baresi, but he still has an eye for goal. A tenacious and highly skilful player, who loves to take the ball forward, the 34 year old is also so good at breaking up and anticipating the play in the middle of the pitch. Always giving his all, and always very consistent with his level of performance, Edson Lami has been an ever present for FC Baresi so far this season.
Having captained and done so well for Baresi last season (2023/24), when they won the Essex Alliance Football League Senior Division, Edson has real quality, and since he has made that step up to the Thurlow Nunn League with FC Baresi, the defensive-midfielder has once again shown his class and professionalism on the pitch. Despite him now playing his football at a higher level of non-League football, Edson is such an important player for FC Baresi, and his quality and tenacity on the pitch, really does make him an indispensable member of their first team squad. However, his levels of performance and consistency for the club, week in, week out, is very impressive. Earlier on this year, Edson even stepped in for the FC Baresi Reserves (they play their football at step 8 of the Essex Alliance Football League) in a league game against Redbridge Community, and he unsurprisingly made such a good impression on that game, in what was a very convincing win for them.
Edson is without doubt a player that FC Baresi are very lucky to have, captaining them on the pitch every week, and I wish both Edson and the club all the very best for the remainder of this season.
