On Saturday afternoon at Latymer School, Alexandra Knights recorded a fine 4-1 away win over FC Wood Green, in a north London derby, in the Division One East & Central, of the Middlesex County Football League. In the following regular feature, I will be going over some of the highlights from this match. Alexandra Knights would line-up in a 4-3-1-2 formation for this game. Quite early on in the match, Alexandra Knights would take the lead. Filippo Gin would receive a good pass to feet, inside of the home team’s penalty area. His ball control and holdup play was good and he would eventually pass the ball to Ernest Kyere, who cleverly flicked the ball past a defender, before finishing well and powerfully beyond the goalkeeper from close range, 0-1. Alexandra Knights continued to play well during the half, in what was a very good, and dominant team performance from them, as they kept possession of the ball well, as well as winning the ball back well, when FC Wood Green had possession.
Alexandra Knights approached the second half in very similar fashion to the first half, continuing to keep the ball impressively. FC Wood Green did manage a couple of efforts on goal, during the early stages of the second half, with Alexandra Knights also managing to test the home side’s goalkeeper on a couple of occasions, before then going on to double their lead in the game. Boris Richter, who was playing at left-back, would pass the ball to Romario Asenso, who would then play a nice lofted pass out to Ernest Kyere, on the right-hand side of the pitch. He would then play the ball back to Rui Rocha, in midfield, and he would subsequently skip past one player, before playing a forward pass to Romario Asenso, who would then take the ball towards the home side’s penalty area, before hitting a good and accurate effort into the bottom left-hand corner of the goal, 0-2.
After having gone 2-0 up in this game, the visitors would look to further extend their lead, as they played their game well. But, FC Wood Green did subsequently manage to pull a goal back in the game. One of the FC Wood Green players would play a pass, from midfield, out to a teammate on the left flank, who would go forward with the ball towards the edge of the away side’s penalty area. He would then cut inside with the ball, before whipping a really good effort into the top right-hand corner of the goal, 1-2. However, Alexandra Knights would respond well, in this derby match, going on to reestablish a two goal cushion. As a well taken lofted free-kick pass (from inside of Alexandra Knights’ half of the pitch, by Rui Rocha) was met by the run of Filippo Gin, in behind the FC Wood Green defence. Filippo Gin would keep his composure inside of the penalty area, before calmly finishing beyond the goalkeeper, who had rushed out of his goal, 1-3.
Before the end of this match, Alexandra Knights would extend their lead by another goal. The player of this match, Rui Rocha (he scored a goal, as well as providing two assists), would pick ball up close to the edge of the FC Wood Green penalty area, but on the right-hand side of the pitch, before finding the top left-hand corner of the goal, courtesy of a really good effort on his left foot. This was a really good win, and team performance from Alexandra Knights, as they look to finish the season as strongly as possible.
