A short preview ahead of a potentially decisive weekend in the Division One East & Central title race, of the Middlesex County Football League:

Both LBS Lions and FC Marylebone have been competing for the Division One East & Central title (step 8 of the Middlesex County Football League), for so much of the current 2024/25 season. Six points currently separate top of the table LBS Lions, from FC Marylebone, who are in second place in the league. It’s been a great contest, so far, between two very good teams at step 8 of the FA pyramid, and the title race would take yet another twist after FC Marylebone and LBS Lions had met in the league on the 15th of March. That game would finish 1-1, but last weekend, and with very little separating both teams in the league, going in to their respective fixtures, there were contrasting results on the day. As FC Marylebone lost 4-3 to Westminster & Kensington, and LBS Lions won 5-2 away to Camden & Islington United Reserves.

Those results for both FC Marylebone and LBS Lions last weekend, means that if FC Marylebone win against Alexandra Knights (there is a double header of matches taking place at Paddington Recreation Ground, on Saturday), then in the second game taking place afterwards, at Paddington Recreation Ground, a point for LBS Lions against the home side, Soccer Stars Fennecs Ascenders, would see LBS Lions clinch the league title. That is LBS Lion’s final league fixture of the season, although FC Marylebone still have to play Camden & Islington & United Reserves, after Saturday. Both really good sides, however, both team’s respective matches on Saturday are difficult ones, but, whatever happens, it has been a season that both sides can be proud of. Both sides have great squads, with quality players, such as FC Marylebone player Jevonte Deabreau (he has scored 21 league goals from 15 appearances this season), Romario Edwards, Matteo Toti, and Andrei Pogan. After I have covered Apollo London’s AFA Challenge Cup final against Clapham Old Xaverians, on Saturday, I will be travelling to Paddington Recreation Ground, to cover what could be a decisive match for LBS Lions.
