On Saturday at 12pm at Old Aloysians FC, in north London, Apollo London, of the Middlesex County Football League (step 8), will face Amateur Football Combination side (Senior 2 South), Clapham Old Xaverians, in the final of this season’s AFA Challenge Cup. Apollo London are currently having a fine debut season in Division One East & Central of the Middlesex League, with them currently finding themselves in third place in the table, after 17 matches played, after moving to the league, after some time spent in the Amateur Football Combination. Clapham Old Xaverians play their football in the Amateur Football Combination (Senior 2 South), and they are currently doing really well so far this season. Clapham Old Xaverians are currently in fourth place in their respective division of the Amateur Football Combination, and with a number of games still in hand, they stand a real chance of winning the Senior 2 South, this season.
Both Apollo London and Clapham Old Xaverians, are really good sides, who have done very well to reach the final of this season’s AFA Challenge Cup. Apollo London won 4-0 away to Latymer Old Boys, in round one of this prestigious competition. They would then impressively win 9-0 against Cretania, in the quarter-finals, before then winning 2-0 away to Hertford Heath Development, in the semi-finals of this competition. Apollo London players Armend Metaj, and Filippos Taliouras, are their current joint top goalscorers in the Middlesex League during this season, with 12 league goals each. However, Apollo London have a really good squad, and they have recorded some big wins in the Middlesex League, this season.
Clapham Old Xaverians are currently on a very impressive 16 game winning run, and they haven’t dropped a single point away from home, in 2024/25. On their way to the final of this season’s AFA Challenge Cup, they have won against Old Wokingians, Clissold Park Rangers, and Worcester College Old Boys. Clapham Old Xaverians’ top goalscorer in all competitions in 2024/25, is Aren Stephen, who has 22 goals so far this season. This is going to be a very competitive and interesting cup final, between two very good sides, and I am really looking forward to attending this final, and writing an in-depth match report on my blog, afterwards.
