Once again I thought that I’d write a weekly round-up of the Southern Amateur Football League action, from Senior Division 1 to 4, of last week. Starting off with Senior Division 1, and Civil Service won their final match of this season, 2-1 away to Actonians Association. Hammersmith would win 5-2 at home to title challengers West Wickham, with the other title challengers in Senior Division 1, Nottsborough, losing 3-1 at home to Alleyn Old Boys, in what was only their second league defeat of this season. And, many congratulations to Nottsborough (1s) on winning this season’s Surrey FA Saturday Premier County Cup, with David Hallam’s side winning 3-1 in the final against Wimbledon Casuals, last Wednesday.
Goals from John Hurley and George Tamne, helped Old Finchleians to a 2-1 home win over Weirside Rangers. Old Finchleians have one final game remaining, but, that was Weirside Rangers’ final SAL fixture of the 2024/25 season. To Senior Division 2, and Polytechnic picked up what could prove to be a very important three points in their quest to avoid relegation, when they beat Merton 5-1, on Saturday. Braces from Akorede Amuludun and Divaldo Fernandes, as well as a goal from Kosuke Sugita, helped Polytechnic to win that game so emphatically.
Also in Senior Division 2, and Nottsborough 2s won 2-0 away to West Wickham 2s. The first of two matches between Bank of England and Old Blues, would end in a 2-2 draw, in Senior Division 3. In the same division, and the Nottsborough 3s versus Civil Service 2s, and Old Wilsonians versus Wilberforce Wanderers matches, were both awarded to the respective home sides. The second of two meetings at Ham Playing Fields, between Bank of England and Old Blues, would see Bank of England win that match 4-2. Bank of England are guaranteed a promotion spot, in Senior Division 3, having played all of their league fixtures.
In Senior Division 4, at Douglas Eyre Sports Ground, and two goals from Arthur Massingham, and a goal each for Charlie Holmes and Tom Thake, helped Senior Division 4 champions Old Parmiterians 2s, to a 5-0 victory over Old Meadonians 2s. And finally, four goals from Hamid Bangura, a brace from James Smith, and goals from Simon Orjuela, Albert Bell, and Dhani Heath, helped South Bank Cuaco 2s to an empathic 9-1 win over Crouch End Vampires, in what was both side’s final game of this season. On Saturday, my highlighted SAL game of the week, is the Senior Division 1 title decider, between West Wickham and Nottsborough.
