A piece on step 7 Middlesex League Premier Division side Camden United – A real community football club in north London:

Camden United’s new league season begins this Saturday, when they face newly promoted side Wood Lane, in the new 2025/26 Middlesex County Football League Premier Division season. The north London club who play their football at step 7 of the non-League pyramid, are more than just a football club. Like their local neighbours, Camden & Islington United, Camden United do a lot of good work in the local community. The following piece is a bit about some of the history of the club, as well as their journey in football, so far.

Camden United FC were formed in 2019 by a group of friends from Camden, to tackle knife crime through football, and the good things that can be achieved through football. Camden United would merge with former Middlesex League side FC Soma, for the beginning of the 2022/23 season, in the league’s Premier Division. At that time Camden United were playing in Barnet. However, in recent seasons they have been playing their home matches at the New River Stadium, in Tottenham. A ground in which were they to finish high enough in this Middlesex League Premier Division season, then they would be able to win promotion to step 6 for the 2026/27 season.

Much loved Camden United co-founder Abdulaziz Munye tragically passed away in 2022 at the age of just 28. A summer league called the Munye League, was set up in Abdulaziz Munye’s memory, and the league brings together eight teams and over 100 youngsters in Camden, on a weekly basis during the summer. A club that provides free football, they have real roots in the Borough of Camden and the local community, and one of the club’s real standout moments so far, undoubtedly came in the Islington Midweek League. A league in which Camden United also compete in, under the leadership of former Camden United head-coach Mansor Omar, they would win the 2022/23 Islington Midweek League Invitation Cup. Camden United won that incredible final against Hilltop, in front of a big crowd at Market Road.

Camden United have had some excellent and very talented coaches who have been a part of the club’s history, so far. Coaches such as Mansor Omar, Moses  Alkarssifi and now for the 2025/26 season, the experienced Leon Louis. A very talented footballing side who are now well established within the Middlesex League Premier Division, Camden United have had some very talented players, such as Julio Fresneda and Arif Bala, who have progressed higher up within non-League football in recent seasons. They also have some very experienced players, such as Irishman Ryan Higgins, who has played football at a much higher level in the past.

A real community club, with some great people involved with the club, such as co-founder Hafid Ali, who does such great work within football and in the local community, Camden United are a club who I reckon will do really well during the 2025/26 season. After an excellent pre-season, with a number of new players joining their Saturday team, I really do consider them to be Premier Division title contenders this season. I wish the club all the very best for the season ahead, and I look forward to covering some of their matches, both in the Middlesex League, and the Islington Midweek League, during this season – starting with their opening league fixture, on Saturday.
