For the second week running I thought that I’d write a bit of a round-up of all of the results in the Thurlow Nunn League First Division South (step 6), at the weekend (Friday the 1st, and Saturday the 2nd of August). With a number of midweek matches taking place over the course of the week (you can see all of the midweek results on FA Full-Time) there were some big results in the third round of league matches of the new season.
Starting off with the Basildon Town versus FC Baresi game, in Essex. And in a game in which Basildon Town took the lead in, the visitors would respond well. And a 61st minute equaliser from Kishawn James would secure a point for Tufail Amjad’s side – their first of the new season. Burnham Ramblers would record their second league win of the season on Saturday, with goals from Asa Cansdale and Tom Franks helping them to a 2-1 home win over Stansted.
At Parkside, Cannons Wood returned to winning ways with a 4-0 home win over NW London. Braces from Robert Cosmos Adams and Jake Heath helped Terry Thomas’ side achieve their second league win of this season. After losing 2-1 at home to Basildon Town in midweek, Geoff Ocran’s Clapton Community side responded with an excellent 5-0 win over Dunmow Town, at the Old Spotted Dog Ground on Saturday afternoon. Andre Odeku got his second goal in two games for the east London club, and Fred Taylor got four goals on the day.
Francesco Zabotti’s Hutton side continued their 100% start to the season with a 1-0 home win over Coggeshall Town, and Newbury Forest recorded their first league victory of the new season. The east London club won 2-1 at home to FC Romania, at The Techsoc Stadium. Following on from their excellent 6-1 away win over FC Baresi last Wednesday, Rayleigh Town recorded a 2-1 home win over Brimsdown on Saturday. Tommy Sykes and Jamie Philbrick got their goals on the day. And finally, in what was their second league match of the season, Billy Cove’s Southend Manor side came from behind to win 2-1 at home to Hoddesdon Town.
My highlighted Thurlow Nunn League First Division South fixture of this week takes place on Friday night in east London, as Lymore Gardens face Stansted. Lee Benjamin and Javel Green’s side have made a 100% start to the season, with two impressive home wins. Stansted, who were relegated from the Essex Senior League at the end of last season, could be their toughest test yet, however. This will be a great game of football.
