This weekend sees the 2025/26 edition of the prestigious FA Vase begin, at the first qualifying round of the competition. Ahead of a round of really interesting fixtures, I thought that I’d write a piece, where I’ll be highlighting three fixtures which personally really standout to me, which are taking place within the London area this weekend.
Lymore Gardens versus Woodford Town:
Recently promoted step 6 side Lymore Gardens have made a tremendous start to life in the Thurlow Nunn League First Division South. The former Essex Alliance Football League Senior Division side, play their football fearlessly, and they have won all five of their league matches so far this season, and they are unbeaten in all competitions. The coaching staff at Lymore Gardens, in Lee Benjamin, Javel Green and Marvin Birch, will be delighted with how their side has started the season, ahead of the club’s historic (it is their first time competing in the competition) FA Vase first qualifying round tie with Woodford Town on Friday night, at The Techsoc Stadium.
This will undoubtedly be Lymore’s biggest test yet of this season, as they face step 5 Essex Senior League side Woodford Town, who have also made an excellent start to the season. This will be a great game of football, between two sides who play some really good football, and there should be a good crowd of fans at The Techsoc Stadium on Friday. And I will be there reporting on this game for my blog.
PFC Victoria London versus Wellingborough Whitworth:
PFC Victoria London’s only previous time competing in the FA Vase, came back in 2019, when they were at step 7 (against Cobham) of the non-League pyramid. A club with roots in London’s Polish community, PFC Victoria play their football in the Combined Counties Football League Division One, and with four wins and two draws from their opening six league matches of the season, they come in to this FA Vase tie unbeaten in all competitions. The team from Northamptonshire – Wellingborough Whitworth, will be travelling to the Robert Parker Stadium in good recent form, as well. The club who play their football in the Spartan South Midlands Football League Division One, have won three, drawn one and lost two from their opening six league matches of this season.
This will be a really good cup tie. If PFC Victoria, a club who I know well from their days in the Middlesex County Football League, can play as well as they have done in their first six league matches of this season, then I really do think that they can get a win tomorrow. However, it will undoubtedly be a very tough game for the home side on Saturday, against a very good and established Wellingborough Whitworth side. I will be covering this game on Saturday.
Enfield Borough versus Clapton Community:
The final FA Vase tie taking place this weekend that I would like to highlight, takes place at the Old Spotted Dog Ground, on Saturday afternoon. Although Enfield Borough are listed as the home side for this cup tie, the game will be taking place at Clapton Community’s home ground. Another game between two fine footballing sides, Enfield Borough picked up their first win of the new season against FC Baresi, in the first round of this seasons Thurlow Nunn League Challenge Cup, on Wednesday. They played really well in that cup tie, and they’ll look to take that performance in to Saturday’s FA Vase tie in east London.
Geoff Ocran’s Clapton Community side will definitely be really well supported on Saturday, and this is yet another early stages FA Vase tie which will be very interesting.
