A piece on Welwyn Garden City’s vastly experienced player-coach – Lewis Jones:

I remember Lewis Jones well from his time playing for FC Baresi, in both the Senior Division of the Essex Alliance Football League, and briefly in the Thurlow Nunn League First Division South, last season (2024/25). A versatile player whose quality, leadership and experience really stood out on the pitch, the 36 year old who was with Arsenal as a youngster, has so much experience within non-League football, having played for clubs such as Wingate & Finchley in the past. Capable of playing in midfield, or in more forward areas of the pitch, as a midfielder, Lewis Jones is a very good player on the ball. As a midfielder, his excellent through-ball passes on to the forwards, as well as his ability to really control games from midfield always made him such an important player for FC Baresi.

Lewis Jones can, as I previously mentioned, can also play higher up the pitch, in a forward role. Timing his runs in to the penalty area so well, he is a very clinical finisher, who has shown throughout his time as a player, that he can score goals. A classy player in a number of positions, Lewis played a big role in FC Baresi winning promotion to step 6, for the first time in their history. Now at step 4 side Welwyn Garden City, in a player-coach role, Lewis Jones brings with him both quality and experience, both on and off the pitch. On bank holiday Monday afternoon, I will be covering Welwyn Garden City’s Southern League Division One Central fixture with London Lions, on my blog. I wish Lewis and Welwyn Garden City, all the very best of luck for this season.
