Following on from my preview of Senior Division 1 for the 2025/26 season of the Southern Amateur Football League, my next preview is on Senior Division 2 of the SAL, following its recent merger with the Amateur Football Combination for the 2025/26 season. Senior Division 2 includes ten very good sides. Firstly, founded in 1888, Alleyn Old Boys were competing in Senior Division 1 of the SAL last season. The south London club would finish in sixth place in that division in 2024/25, one point behind fifth place Civil Service.
Last season Enfield Old Grammarians had a great season, as they won the Senior 1 North by 13 points, as well as winning the prestigious Amateur FA Senior Cup (they beat Wandsworth Borough in the final of that competition). I reckon that Enfield Old Grammarians will be one of the favourites to win the Senior Division 2, this season. They will face step 6 non-League side SL Benfica, in the first round of this seasons Middlesex FA Premier Cup, next month, in what will be a really interesting cup tie.
Nottsborough 2nds, just like their first team, are a very good side who won the Senior Division 2 in 2024/25, and they are another team who are competing in this division in 2025/26. Old Finchleians and Weirside Rangers’ first teams, are both very established clubs in amateur football, who were competing in Senior Division 1 of the SAL last season. They will however, both be competing in Senior Division 2, during this season. After finishing in eighth place in the Premier Division of the Amateur Football Combination in 2024/25, Old Hamptonians join this division for the current season, along with Reigatians, who finished one place above them in last seasons standings.
Old Meadonians, who are based in west London, finished as runners up to Nottsborough 2nds in Division 2 of last seasons SAL, and they will remain in this division for the start of this season. And another team who I personally think could really challenge for the Senior Division 2 title, is an Old Salvatorians side who finished in fifth place in the Premier Division of the Amateur Football Combination, last season. Finally, last seasons Amateur Football Combination Senior 1 South Division champions, Old Pauline, make up the 2025/26 seasons Senior Division 2 constitution. Just like with the Senior Division 1, the Senior Division 2 is so, so competitive this season. This will be a very interesting season, and I would like to wish all of the teams involved, all the very best of luck for the season ahead.
