In my second round-up of the opening Saturday’s action of the SAL season, I’ll be looking at some of the results from some of the lower divisions of this great amateur football league, from Intermediate 1 to Division 5. In Intermediate North 1 Enfield Old Grammarians 2nds won 3-0 at home to Mill Hill Village, in what was the only game taking place in that division on Saturday. Moving on to North Division 2, and Old Vaughanians would draw 2-2 with Albanian FC, with Southgate County 2nds beating Old Pegasonians 3-0.
There were four matches taking place in North Division 3. Old Aloysians 2nds won 3-2 at home to St James’ Old Boys. Old Finchleians 2nds would lose 2-0 at home to Old Millhillians, and at the Lyonian Pavilion Old Lyonians won 2-1 against Spaniards Eulon. And the final game taking place in North Division 3 was between UCL Academicals and Enfield Old Grammarians 3rds, with the away team winning that game 5-0. North Division 4 saw two matches take place on Saturday afternoon. Latymer Old Boys (Joshua Eagle got their only goal of the game) lost 3-1 at home to Winchmore Hill 4s, and in east London Old Garchonians won 4-3 against Hale End Athletic. in North Divison 5, Alexandra Park 3s won 4-2 away to East Barnet Old Grammarians. Goals from Elias Mousli (x2) and Adam Tzimas meant that Forza got off to a winning start, winning 3-2 away to Southgate County 3s.
At Actonians Sports Club Actonians Association 2nds lost 3-1 at home to Hammersmith 2nds, in the only game which was taking place in Intermediate South 1. There was also only one game taking place in South Division 2, and that was between Shene Old Grammarians 2nds and Old Wokinginians. Shene Old Grammarians 2nds won this match 4-3. In South Division 3 there was a high scoring game between Bank of England 3s and Alleyn Old Boys 2s, in which Bank of England 3s won 6-4. In the same division Polytechnic 2nds won 1-0 against Thorntonians 3s, and Worcester College Old Boys would draw 2-2 with Sinjuns Grammarians 2nds.
In South Division 4 Old Meadonians 3s lost 5-0 at home to Old Pauline 2nds, and Old Whitgiftians (Lee Murphy got their goal) would draw 1-1 with Polytechnic 3s. Finally in South Division 5 it was a day of convincing wins. Firstly, South Bank Cuaco 3s won 6-1 away to Civil Service 4s, and Chattan, who are a very established club, won 5-2 away to Reigatians 2nds.
