PFC Victoria London 1-0 Holmer Green FC: (My match report from Robert Parker Stadium)

PFC Victoria London welcomed Holmer Green to the Robert Parker Stadium on Wednesday night, for a Combined Counties Football League Division One fixture. PFC Victoria started this league fixture in seventh place in the league table after 11 matches played. Holmer Green started this game in 11th place in the table, after nine matches played. PFC Victoria London would win this match 1-0, to move up to fourth place in the league table.

During the early stages of this game Holmer Green player Jeffrey Fordjour would hit a decent powerful effort (from around 25 yards out) on the PFC Victoria goal, which was held by Milan Czerwonka. A couple of moments later and Milan Czerwonka would do well to tip a low effort from the edge of his box, behind for a corner-kick. Then soon after, Alex Colverd would hit a low effort wide of the PFC Victoria goalkeeper’s near post following a really good move which had started with Ollie Saunders out on the right-hand side of the pitch, as Holmer Green continued to play well.

Despite Holmer Green having started this game the better of the two sides, it was PFC Victoria who in the 20th minute, would take the lead in this game. Volodymyr Lema would receive a short pass around 25 yards out from the away team’s goal, before hitting an unstoppable and powerful effort from a fairly central area of the pitch, in to the bottom left-hand corner of the Holmer Green goal, 1-0. A couple of minutes after play had resumed PFC Victoria player Serhii Hura would turn on the ball (over 20 yards out from goal) before hitting a fine dipping effort on goal, which was well tipped over his crossbar by the Holmer Green goalkeeper, Samuel Bell.

After a bit of a quiet spell in the game, Holmer Green would, quite late on in the first half, come close to drawing level. Courtesy of another good and effective move, on the left-hand side of the PFC Victoria box, a Holmer Green player’s powerful effort on goal was well parried by Milan Czerwonka, who then did ever so well to react and then tip over Alex Colverd’s effort on the follow-up.

The first goalscoring chance of the second half was created by Holmer Green, with Lloyd Ronald Majaya hitting a good effort, following a lay off, which whistled narrowly wide of Milan Czerwonka’s right-hand post. Around ten minutes later impressive and influential PFC Victoria player Diego Munoz would hit a fine dipping effort from 25 yards out and close to the left-hand side of the pitch, which was well pushed over his crossbar by Samuel Bell. As the second half progressed, PFC Victoria would defend deeper, as Holmer Green really pushed for an equalising goal.

Towards the latter stages of the game PFC Victoria goalkeeper Milan Czerwonka would have to make another important double save. This time the outrushing goalkeeper would make a big save from Joshua Peck’s effort following a move to the right-hand side of the home team’s box. And then on the follow-up Milan Czerwonka would keep out Ollie Saunders’ effort. During the final stages of the game PFC Victoria would defend really well, going on to see out the remaining minutes of the game to get the win.

This was a well contested game, between two good sides in this step 6 league. Holmer Green were probably the more creative side on Wednesday, and they were unlucky not to get a draw from this game. However, Milan Czerwonka made some really important saves in this game, and both he and the PFC Victoria defence would defend solidly and effectively throughout. For my overall player of the match award I’m going to award it to Milan Czerwonka, who had another fine game in goal for PFC Victoria. However, Harrison Holbrook (Holmer Green’s captain was my Holmer Green player of the match), Diego Munoz (he once again showed his quality on the ball, but he also worked so hard off the ball) and the impressive match winner Volodymyr Lema, was also very good for PFC Victoria.
