On Saturday afternoon in the SAL there were plenty of league and cup games involving teams across Senior Divisions 1 to 4. In Senior Division 1, Dorkinians returned to winning ways, with a 2-0 away win over Hammersmith, at Club Des Sports. Daniel Rawson and Jonathan Walton got Dorkinians’ goals on the day. Goals from Harry Jaquiss and Alexander Roberts helped Honourable Artillery Company to a 2-0 home win over West Wickham, and a goal from James Rodriguez helped Thorntonians to record a point, in their 1-1 draw at home to NUFC Oilers. The final Senior Division 1 fixture taking place on Saturday, would see Rob Roy Rovers draw 1-1 with Wandsworth Borough.
In Senior Division 2 Alleyn Old Boys lost 2-0 at home to Weirside Rangers, at The Edward Alleyn Club. At Tolworth Sports Ground Nottsborough 2nd recorded a very impressive 10-0 win over Reigatians. There was another high scoring game in Senior Division 2 on Saturday, this time in north London, as Enfield Old Grammarians prepared for their important Middlesex FA Premier Cup tie with SL Benfica (this week), with a 4-3 away win over Old Finchleians. Patrick Adamson, Laurence Connolly, Callum Wick and Thomas Beadle got the away sides goals, against Old Finchleians.
Also in Senior Division 2, goals from Xavier Mackney and James Allison helped Old Meadonians to record a 2-1 away win over Old Pauline. Now to Senior Division 3, and in the very early rounds of this seasons Middlesex FA Intermediate Cup, Winchmore Hill won 6-2 at home to step 7 non-League side OIR, in north London. In the first round of this seasons SAL Senior Cup, Bank of England won 3-1 away to Sinjuns Grammarians, and Southgate County beat Old Wilsonians 3-2, at home, also in a first round tie. And Old Ignatian won 3-0 away to West Wickham 2nd, in another first round tie of this prestigious competition.
In the first round of this seasons SAL Challenge Cup, there was a home walkover for Alexandra Park, for their first round tie with Shene Old Grammarians. South Bank Cuaco were also awarded the win, for their first round tie with Mill Hill Village, in the same competition. Polytechnic would win their first round tie of this seasons SAL Challenge Cup 4-3 away to Old Woodhouseians, with Tenisons winning 4-2 at home to Civil Service 2nd. Continuing with the same competition, and Nottsborough 3rd beat Old Parmiterians 4-1 at their home ground in Surrey, with HSBC winning 5-3 at home to Actonians Association 2nd. Finally, Honourable Artillery Company 2nd won 3-2 at home to Dorkinians 2nd. I may well attend my first SAL match of the season, next Saturday, although I will decide for definite later in the week.
