PFC Victoria London 0-1 Colliers Wood United FC: (My match report from Robert Parker Stadium)

On Saturday afternoon at the Robert Parker Stadium, PFC Victoria London faced Colliers Wood United, in a Combined Counties Football League Division One fixture. PFC Victoria started this match in first place in the league table, after 24 league matches played. Colliers Wood United started this game in 11th place in the league table, after 23 league matches played. Colliers Wood United would win this match 1-0.

In a first half of very little in the way of goalscoring chances, for either side, the first and only real chance of the first half was created by PFC Victoria during the opening minutes of the game. As Oscar Kruczkiewicz had hit a first time effort just wide of the Colliers Wood goal, after meeting a low cross in the centre of their penalty area. It would play out to be, in my opinion, an even contest during the first half, with Colliers Wood using the ball well, as well as keeping a good defensive shape.

Early on in the second half and following a flick on to the left-hand side of the PFC Victoria penalty area, Colliers Wood player Benjamin Ellerington would see his effort on the bounce, be gathered by the home team’s goalkeeper, Filip Chalupniczak. Around five minutes later PFC Victoria would move the ball around the pitch well to create a decent goalscoring chance, as Oscar Kruczkiewicz hit a good, low effort from the edge of the Colliers Wood box, which went just wide of goalkeeper Jack Powell’s right-hand post.

Following on from that effort by Oscar Kruczkiewicz, PFC Victoria would again go close to taking the lead. This time and after a Colliers Wood defender had made an important challenge on Diego Munoz, inside the away team’s penalty area, Zac Jervis would get to the rolling ball on the edge of the box. His powerful effort on goal was really well parried by Jack Powell, before Volodymyr Lema had hit a powerful effort over, on the follow-up.

Having really frustrated PFC Victoria with a very good shape and well organised defence, in the 78th minute of this contest Colliers Wood United would be clinical in front of goal, to take the lead. Impressive Colliers Wood defender Tremayne Huie Moseley’s accurate, long lofted pass from out on the left flank, would find Danyaal Iqbal in a bit of space inside the home team’s penalty area. Danyaal Iqbal would control the pass well, before showing his composure in front of Filip Chalupniczak, and then calmly placing the ball into the bottom left-hand corner of the goal, 0-1.

Before the end of this game, and with Colliers Wood continuing to really frustrate PFC Victoria defensively, the away side would come close to making it 2-0. As Danyaal Iqbal received the ball on the right-hand side of the home team’s penalty area, before seeing his powerful low on their goal be well parried away by Filip Chalupniczak, as Colliers Wood saw out the remaining minutes of the game. This was a very well organised performance from Colliers Wood, in a game of not very many chances at all. They took their chance late on in this game courtesy of Danyaal Iqbal, but defensively they were very solid throughout this match.

This was a good win for Colliers Wood, against a PFC Victoria side that will be disappointed with how many chances they created on the day, but credit must go to Colliers Wood, for really frustrating PFC Victoria on the day. I thought that Tremayne Huie Moseley had a very good game at left-back for Colliers Wood, as did Joe Fitzpatrick in central defence. However, for his match winning goal, fine movement off the ball and pressing, Danyaal Iqbal was my player of the match. I have covered games in which the highly skilful Colliers Wood player has played in before, for both Colliers Wood United, and Macwo FC, who Danyaal plays for in the Islington Midweek Football League.
