On Saturday afternoon, in the fifth round of this season’s FA Vase, there are three clubs still in the prestigious competition, who are representing London. South London side Fisher travel to Kent, to face fellow SCEFL Premier Division side, Punjab United, in what promises to be a very competitive cup tie. Fisher are doing ever so well in the FA Vase this season, and they are currently in 11th place in the SCEFL Premier Division standings, after 20 matches played. Punjab United are currently just outside of the play-off positions, after 22 matches played.
East London side Lymore Gardens, are in their debut season in the FA Vase, and what they have achieved so far this season, is as I have mentioned many times before, is remarkable! Lee Benjamin’s side make the long trip to Downton FC tomorrow, to face the step 5 Wessex League Premier Division side. Downton are currently in 11th place (after 21 league matches played) in their league standings. Lymore Gardens are currently in seventh place in the Thurlow Nunn League First Division South table, after 25 league matches played.
Lymore Gardens always, regardless of the game or who they are up against, express themselves on the pitch. And, even though tomorrow’s cup tie is without doubt the biggest game in the club’s history, I believe that they’ll still play their game their way, and really express themselves as a team. It certainly won’t be an easy game for Lymore, but they’re more than capable of creating more history as a club, on Saturday.
Finally, the only remaining Spartan Football League side still in the FA Vase, Cockfosters, travel to the holders of the competition, in Whitstable Town, tomorrow. Gavin Kelsey’s side are challenging really well in three competitions this season, including in the Premier Division of the Spartan League, where they are currently in third place in the table, three points off the league leaders, Winslow United. As a team and as a squad, Cockfosters play really well together. They are strong defensively, as well as being impressive in front of goal, and creative on the ball.
This is a really tough draw for Cockfosters against the SCEFL Premier Division league leaders and last season’s FA Vase winners, Whitstable Town. However, I wish Cockfosters, Lymore Gardens and Fisher, all the very best of luck for their respective FA Vase ties on Saturday.
