Abdullahi (Hilltop FC’s first team manager):
“ Mohamed Hussain has helped us in different countries, to compete in tournaments, and to help Hilltop win their first major tournament abroad. He has helped bring players from different parts of London that suited the team’s style of play. And he is the most respected footballer in the Somalian community, around the world. As well as improving a lot of players, he has made them play football the right way, with his calm leadership qualities in the changing room allowing players to express themselves. He leads by example, and is well respected by his teammates. ”
Now 38 years old, Mohamed Hussein is a player who has been on much of Hilltop FC’s journey, since they rejoined the Middlesex County Football League, a number of years ago. Mohamed Hussein made his competitive debut for Hilltop in a Middlesex County League Division Two fixture with Best 72, over ten years ago now. In his next game for the club, he would score a hat-trick for them. Many promotions and successes later, and the vastly experienced Hilltop midfielder is still playing for the club’s first team, who play at step 5 of the non-League football pyramid (Combined Counties Football League Premier Division North).
Over the past ten years Mohamed Hussein has contributed so much to the club. From being a hugely important player for Hilltop in the lower levels of the Middlesex County Football League, to playing in and helping to win cup finals for them, Mohamed Hussein is a very well respected player at the club. As well as being part of the Hilltop side who won promotion from the Middlesex League Premier Division, to step 6, he was also part of the Hilltop side who then won promotion to the division in which they currently play their football in, the Combined Counties Football League Premier Division North. Having featured prominently in that promotion winning season for them.
As a midfielder, who often likes to stay deep on the pitch in order to get on the ball, Mohamed Hussein (he has made 26 competitive appearances for Hilltop so far this season), is a quality ball playing midfielder. So calm and composed on the ball, with a fine range of passing, he is capable of turning really well with the ball under pressure. A player who gives his all on the pitch for his team, Mohamed Hussein is a real club legend, who is respected greatly by all at the club, and across all of Hilltop’s teams. From playing in the lower levels of the Middlesex League, to still being a player who has made almost 30 appearances for Hilltop at step 5 this season, Mohamed Hussein’s footballing story is one to be admired in non-League football, and at Hilltop FC.
