This was an important Thurlow Nunn League First Division South fixture for both sides on Tuesday night, at West Street, as Coggeshall Town faced FC Baresi. Coggeshall Town started this league fixture in fourth place in the league table, after 29 matches played. The visitors, FC Baresi, started this game in 17th place in the league standings, after 32 matches played. Coggeshall Town deservedly won this game, 4-1.
Early on in this game and Coggeshall would create a great chance from which they came very close to taking the lead from. As Josh Ambrose’s good clipped cross from the right-hand side of the pitch, was met by Chandler Wray inside of the FC Baresi box, as his powerful header on goal was really well tipped onto his crossbar by Razvan Marcu, before the ball was cleared away. Yet, a couple of moments later and FC Baresi, who had their goalkeeper to thank for keeping the scores at 0-0 so early on, would take an early lead. Sertan Kirman would receive a forward pass from Kishawn James, and after entering the Coggeshall box, down the right-hand side, he would power a low and clinical effort into the bottom left-hand corner of the goal, 0-1.
After taking the lead during the opening stages of this game, FC Baresi now had quite a bit of defending to do, in and around their penalty area. However, after a bit of a break before the next real goalscoring chance of this game, and Coggeshall would eventually draw level. With Josh Ambrose showing some good skill on the ball around 20 yards out from goal, before finishing well and clinically into the bottom left-hand corner of Razvan Marcu’s goal, 1-1. The closest that either side came to scoring another goal before half-time, came from Sertan Kirman’s well hit and powerful first time effort from 25 yards out on goal, which whistled narrowly wide of Jayden Peglar’s right-hand post.
The opening stages of the second half of this game were highly successful for Coggeshall, who went on to score two goals in quick succession. For their second goal of the game, impressive Coggeshall substitute Lewis Wallman would get a powerful low effort away, from the edge of the FC Baresi penalty area, which found the bottom left-hand corner of their goal, 2-1. And then soon afterwards, from a good free-kick delivery from out on the left flank and close to the edge of the Baresi penalty area, the ball was powerfully met by Joe Borein, whose headed effort went past Razvan Marcu and into his goal, 3-1.
Coggeshall had undoubtedly been the better team so far in this game, and they continued to really limit FC Baresi to very little in the way of goalscoring chances, during the second half. Following on from a good Coggeshall one-two passing move which resulted in a Coggeshall player powering a low effort narrowly wide of the Baresi goal from the edge of their penalty area, Tufail Amjad’s side went on to create the next chance of the game. As Sertan Kirman went on a surging forward run with the ball through the middle of the pitch, before playing a well weighted through-ball pass to Junior Appiah, inside of the Coggeshall box. The FC Baresi captain’s low resulting effort didn’t really have the power needed to really trouble Jayden Peglar, who turned the ball behind for a corner-kick.
Late on in the match, and Lewis Wallman would get to the ball, following a Coggeshall free-kick, on the edge of the Baresi penalty area, from where he finished low and powerfully into Razvan Marcu’s goal, 4-1. All in all, and despite FC Baresi starting this game quite well, with them taking an early lead, Coggeshall Town deserved to win this game by a comfortable 4-1 scoreline. Coggeshall are a very well organised side, and although Lewis Wallman, Joe Borein and Todd Hollocks were all contenders for my player of the match award on Tuesday, I’m going to name their centre-forward, Josh Ambrose, as my player of the match. He scored one goal, but his all-round play and link-up play was very good throughout. Central-midfielder Leo Ruci was my FC Baresi player of the match.
