On Wednesday night (kick-off is at 7:45pm) at Ashford Town FC, Hammersmith & Kensington Town will face the current holders of the Geoff Harrison Junior Cup, in Civil Service 3rds, in this seasons final. Hammersmith & Kensington Town play their football in the Wimbledon & Kingston Football League Division 1. They currently sit in first place in their division, with a 100% record. Their journey to this prestigious Middlesex FA county cup final, began in round one last October, when they beat AFC Heathrow 10-0. In round two, Hammersmith & Kensington Town were handed a tough draw, as they faced last seasons’ finalists, CB Hounslow & Abbots Senior Reserves. However, they won that tie 3-1.

In the quarter-finals of the Geoff Harrison Junior Cup, Hammersmith & Kensington Town would beat Old Millhillians’ first team in emphatic fashion. This set up a semi-final tie with Middlesex County League side with Wiseman West, which the the team who play at the Shamrock Club in Acton, won 3-1, to take them to the cup final. Last seasons winners of this county cup, the very experienced Civil Service 3rds (of the SAL South Division 3) beat Winchmore Hill sixth 3-1 in round one of this seasons’ cup. Then in round two the SAL side beat Staines & Lammas (Middlesex) Under 23s, 4-2. They were then handed a tough quarter-final draw with Kodak (Harrow) Reserves. After a 2-2 draw in normal time, Civil Service 3rds won on penalties, to progress into the semi-finals.

In a closely contested semi-final tie away to Middlesex County League side FH Whistlers Originals, Civil Service 3rds would progress to the final (2-0) on penalties, after that tie had finished 0-0. This brings us to Wednesday’s cup final, which promises to be a really good game. I’ve heard some great things about Hammersmith & Kensington Town, and the holders Civil Service 3rds are a side whose quality as a team cannot be underestimated. I will be in attendance at this cup final, and I will of course be writing a match report, as well. All the very best of luck to both sides.
