My preview of the 2026/27 Islington Midweek Football League season:

The 2026/27 season of the very long running and well known Islington Midweek Football League promises to be another highly competitive one. With so much footballing talent taking to the pitches at Market Road, pretty much every week until late May, from the opening fixtures of the league season, which starts this evening.

Streatham Vale will be looking to retain the Premier Division title again this season, after winning the league by one point over a Macwo FC side who have departed the league for this season, and also Hilltop (Midweek), who also finished last season on 33 points. In what was a close Premier Division season last time out, Wimpole Mews and Tawfiiq, are both teams to be greatly respected in this season’s title race. However, the returning Southside Sports, Spicegun 1sts (they won the treble last season, including Division 1), Euston Lane (they were promoted two divisions up, from Division 2), Copenhagen Youth Project and Bonva United, could in my opinion all really challenge for the title. Both NK Dons and Inter Mile End left the league at the end of the previous Premier Division season.

On Division 1, promoted side and last season’s Presidents Cup winners, Hackney Galacticos, are a talented team to watch out for this season. Karakocan had a team in the Barnet Sunday League in 2025/26, and they join this midweek league for the start of this season. As do Spicegun 3rds, with a strong Camden United (Midweek) side being relegated from the Premier Division, to Division 1.

On to Division 2, and two talented and youthful sides in Bloomsbury and Walaalo, are teams to watch out for in this division, following successful season’s in Division 3, during 2025/26. As are a fine Athenians side, who were relegated from Division 1, into this division. Division 2 should be very competitive across the 2026/27 season. Finally, Division 3 welcomes Camden United OG’s and Finsbury Park Mosque to the league for this season. Local side Jubba FC are a team who last season finished in fifth place in this division, but this season I really think that they could challenge for the title, alongside last season’s third place side Fullback and Barnet Deaf.

Once again, I’ll be covering a good number of matches in this league throughout the season. I wish all the teams the very best of luck for the season ahead.
