After exiting the FA Vase last Saturday, Hilltop returned to Combined Counties Football League Premier Division North action, when they faced Broadfields United on Wednesday evening at Silver Jubilee Park (Hendon FC). Hilltop started this step 5 league fixture in eighth place in the league table, after two more games played (7) than Broadfields United, who started this game one place below them in the table. Broadfields United would win this game 5-0.

During the early stages of this game, a significant moment in the game would occur, as Hilltop defender Hussein Hussein was shown a straight red card. Deemed to have fouled Broadfields forward David Levy on the edge of the Hilltop penalty area, Hussein Hussein was the last man when he made the challenge. And after the referee had consulted the linesman on the near side, a red card was shown to Hussein Hussein. From the following Broadfields free-kick in a promising position, a curling effort on goal was well kept out by Ahmed Omer, who also did well to save a teammate’s effort on the follow-up, from close range. However, David Levy was then able to finish from very close range, 0-1.

Unsurprisingly Broadfields were now on top in this game. Following Rhys Ellis’ good diagonal lofted ball to the left-hand side of the Hilltop box, the ball was left by David Levy to Arieeg Yakinya, who from close range would see his powerful effort be well saved by the outrushing Ahmed Omer. Soon after that Broadfields chance, the away side would make it 2-0, before really controlling and managing their two goal lead during the rest of the first half. For their second goal of the game, Broadfields player Arieeg Yakinya was alert to a Hilltop error, sprinting forward with the ball down the left. After skilfully entering the left-hand side of the Hilltop penalty area, Arieeg Yakinya would unselfishly square the ball to the onrushing Gabriel Piorkowski who finished low into the goal from the centre of the box, 0-2.

Five minutes into the second half Broadfields United would make it 3-0. Jordan Grey would progress the ball for a while from midfield before playing a through-ball pass into the run of Gabriel Piorkowski, in behind the Hilltop defence. Gabriel Piorkowski would take the ball forward down the right-hand side of the penalty area before playing the ball across to David Levy who had made a run to the back post, from where he would finish into the goal from close range, 0-3. Then 15 minutes later and after continuing to play and manage the game well, Broadfields United would further extend their lead.

For goal number four of the evening for Broadfields, David Levy would flick the ball onto Jordy Mumbiny, who took the ball in his stride and at good pace down the right-hand side of the Hilltop box, before squaring the ball to Arieeg Yakinya for a tap in from close range, 0-4. A dominant Broadfields United side who had made a number of changes by this late stage in the game, would in the 75th minute of proceedings get their fifth goal of the evening. A loose Hilltop pass out from defence was controlled by Gabriel Piorkowski, who from around 23 yards out on goal would power a dipping effort past the goalkeeper and into the goal, 0-5.

This was a professional performance from last season’s play-off finalists in a very good Broadfields United side, this evening. Yes it was against a Hilltop side who had ten players for so much of the game, after that early sending off of Hussein Hussein. But, Broadfields really took control of the game and in forward areas they were very clinical in front of goal, as they moved into the play-off positions following this win. Gabriel Piorkowski, captain Rhys Ellis and Arieeg Yakinya were all contenders for my player of the match award on Wednesday, after some very good respective performances. However, after scoring two goals and leading the line really well during his time on the pitch with some good centre-forward play, David Levy was my player of the match.
