It was a historic afternoon for CSM London on Saturday, as the east London side took to the pitch at the Terence McMillan Stadium for the very first time. Ahead of their first ever home game at the Terence McMillan Stadium, CSM started this Essex Alliance Football League Senior Division fixture against Vallance, in fourth place in the league table. Vallance started this match in 13th place in the league standings. CSM London started life at the Terence McMillan Stadium with a 3-2 win against a Vallance team who really made them work hard for their win.
CSM started this game well, and at a good intensity as a team. They would take an early lead following a penalty which had been awarded to them following a foul by Yerim Sakho on Tyrell Huggins-Solomons, who had managed to get to Cyril Pluche’s looping pass just ahead of the Vallance defender inside their box. Up stepped Tyrell Huggins-Solomons, who from the resulting penalty would calmly roll the ball into the bottom left-hand corner of the goal, 1-0. CSM continued to play their passing game well as the game progressed, and they continued to create good openings in Vallance’s final third.
Not too long after having taken that early lead, CSM London would double their advantage for the afternoon. Rabbi Hossain’s corner-kick delivery to Hluemlo Baartman’s near post wasn’t cleared away in time by the away side, with Kane Huggins-Solomons reacting quickly to finish into the goal from close range, 2-0. Before half-time CSM came close to adding a third goal to their tally, with Tyrell Huggins-Solomons doing well to flick the ball into the path of centre-forward Junior Milla, inside the Vallance penalty area. However, Junior Milla’s powerful effort on goal was well parried by Hluemlo Baartman.
Early on in the second half a nice lofted pass from Cyril Pluche was controlled by Rabbi Hossain out on the left flank. After the CSM winger had taken the ball into the Vallance penalty area, he would square the ball for Junior Milla, whose effort on goals was well turned behind by Hluemlo Baartman. From the resulting corner-kick, Rabbi Hossain’s ball into the box was met by Junior Milla, whose effort from close range was also well saved by Hluemlo Baartman. However, after CSM had lost possession of the ball down the right-hand side of their penalty area soon afterwards, this would lead to Vallance getting a goal back. With captain Oscar Harris finishing powerfully from the centre of the box, into the roof of Ryan Thompson’s goal, 2-1.
Despite Vallance having improved in forward areas it was Will Brobby’s CSM side who were still looking like the more creative side on the ball. After hardworking centre-forward Junior Milla had ran on to a lofted forward pass in behind the Vallance defence and inside their penalty area, his resulting side-footed effort would go narrowly wide across the face of the Vallance goal. But, a couple of minutes later and CSM substitute Isaac Sijuade would control a long forward pass excellently, just inside the Vallance penalty area. From where he was fouled by a Vallance player, as the referee pointed to the penalty spot. Up stepped Tyrell Huggins-Solomons once again, to this time slot the ball into the right-hand corner of the goal with a composed finish, 3-1.
Following on from a headed Vallance clearance and then Cyril Pluche’s powerful volleyed effort from the edge of the box, which was well tipped over by Hluemlo Baartman, Vallance would go on to make the scores 3-2. As forward Khalid Madey’s powerful whipped free-kick effort from the edge of the CSM penalty area, had bounced off the crossbar. Before Vallance substitute Michael Ogunbo was able to finish high into the goal on the follow-up and from inside the box a couple of moments later, 3-2. This set up a tense final part of the game, as shortly after the influential Tyrell Huggins-Solomons’ curling free-kick effort from the edge of the Vallance box had hit their woodwork, the visitors would go on to get the ball into some good areas. However, CSM London managed to hold on to make sure of another important three points.
Credit must go to a youthful Vallance side who really made CSM work hard for this win, after they had got back into the game well. However, CSM London created many chances in what proved to be a good game of football, and I thought that they deserved their win. Special mentions for Cyril Pluche, Kane Huggins-Solomons and young CSM winger Rabbi Hossain, but overall and for me, my player of the match award goes to CSM midfielder Tyrell Huggins-Solomons. Such a key player for CSM, Tyrell Huggins-Solomons scored two goals from the penalty spot this afternoon, but his hard work off the ball and quality on it didn’t go unnoticed.
