A very inform Broadfields United side welcomed Holyport to Tithe Farm on Tuesday evening, for this Combined Counties Football League Premier Division North (step 5) fixture. Broadfields United started this game in second place in the league table, against a Holyport side who started this fixture in 18th place in the standings. Broadfields United would win this game 3-0.
After a relatively even start to the game with both sides having created a couple of decent early openings, Holyport would create the best early chance of the game. Elias Hamzie having skilfully controlled Joe Blount’s cross from the left, into the centre of the Broadfields box. However, the Holyport number 10’s effort on the turn was blocked by a defender, with Joe Brinsden getting to the loose ball and hitting a low effort narrowly wide of Tom Clark’s goal. Around five minutes later Abdirahman Sharif Mohamed’s through-ball pass would find the run of David Levy down the right-hand side of the Holyport penalty area, where his powerfully hit effort would go narrowly over the goal.
Soon after that Broadfields chance their captain Rhys Ellis’ whipped free-kick effort from 25 yards out, would have to be well tipped over his crossbar by Holyport goalkeeper Will Cullum. The goalscoring chances continued to be created, and next we would see a forward pass reach the run of Joe Brinsden in behind the Broadfields defence. Inside their penalty area and one versus one with Tom Clark, Joe Brinsden’s low effort was well saved by the feet of the outrushing Broadfields goalkeeper. And then in the 37th minute of the first half Broadfields would take the lead. For that opening goal of the game, Abdirahman Sharif Mohamed would play a short pass across to Leo Decabo in midfield, who in turn would play an exquisite forward pass into the path of Caleb Adomako-Mensah, who took the ball forward into the Holyport box. He would then do well to lift the ball past the outrushing goalkeeper and into the bottom right-hand corner of his goal, 1-0.
The first chance of the second half was created by Broadfields, after David Levy had held off a Holyport player in midfield before taking the ball forward and then playing the ball forward towards the run of Pawel Kowalkowski, who from the right-hand side of the Holyport penalty area would square the ball for the onrushing Gabriel Piorkowski. However, from close range his effort lacked a bit of power, with it being saved and then gathered by Will Cullum. Yet soon afterwards in the 69th minute of the game Broadfields would double their advantage for the evening. Leo Decabo would provide his second assist of the game as he played the ball across to Jordan Grey, who from 26 yards out would hit a powerful effort with his laces, as the ball traveled at great pace past Will Cullum and into the bottom left-hand corner of his goal, 2-0.
With Broadfields controlling the game and managing their two goal lead effectively, it wasn’t a surprise when they added a third goal to their tally in the 82nd minute of proceedings. A fine pass forward from midfield would find David Levy, and from down the right-hand side of the Holyport box he would unselfishly play the ball across to the onrushing Pawel Kowalkowski who finished low into the goal, 3-0. David Levy had once again worked very hard and played well in the forward areas of the pitch, and he came close very late on to adding to his good tally of goals for this season. After having met Jordan Grey’s good pass over the top of the Holyport defence, he would run onto the ball. Inside the penalty area and one versus one with the Holyport goalkeeper, his effort on goal was well turned behind by Will Cullum.
A well deserved win for Broadfields on Tuesday, Holyport did make the inform home side work hard for all three points, especially when Holyport (in my opinion Joe Brinsden was their player of the match) were at their best during the first half. However, Broadfields stepped it up during the second half, playing their game really well and in dominant fashion. There were a number of contenders for my player of the match award on Tuesday, with the performances of Leo Decabo and Rhys Ellis being very notable. However, the performance in midfield by Broadfields player Jordan Grey was very good, and he really set the tempo from midfield, as well as winning the ball well in central areas, and he did of course score a very good goal. Jordan Grey was therefore my player of the match.
