London Hibernian and AMG Ballerz will go head to head for the prestigious London Saturday Junior Cup (final) on Friday night at Chislehurst Glebe FC. The current holders of this county cup competition, AMG Ballerz, play their football in the Kent County Football League Division One West (step 8). They are currently in second place in their division, and with a number of games in hand over the first place side, are in with a great chance of winning the title. London Hibernian recently won their step 8 division: the Surrey South Eastern Combination Intermediate Division 1.
The current holders of the competition, AMG Ballerz actually knocked London Hibernian out of this county cup competition at the semi-finals stage of last seasons’ competition, 4-0 (away). However, their journey in this seasons’ edition of the competition, started in the second round, when they beat Goldingers FC 2-1 at home. In round three, they would go on to beat Active Sports FC’s first team (2-0, away), and then Northumberland Heath 3-2, in round four. On to the quarter-finals, and AMG Ballerz would impressively win 4-1 away to last seasons’ finalists, Exeter Old Boys, which in turn setup a semi-final tie at home to a very good SAL side, in Hammersmith. However, they would win 2-0, to reach the final of the cup. AMG Ballerz’ top goalscorer this season, is Luke Pollard.
London Hibernian’s journey to the final, also started in the second round when they won in emphatic fashion (8-1) at home to Junction Elite FC. Then in the third round, the club which has roots in London’s Irish community, would win on penalties against Athenians, after that game had finished in a 2-2 draw after 90 minutes. In the fourth round, London Hibernian would beat Royal Wells 8-2, before then drawing 0-0 with Hackney Wick Reserves in the quarter-finals, at Hackney Marshes. However, they would make it into the semi-finals, by winning on penalties. Finally, in the semi-finals, London Hibernian would win 7-2 at home to Trenham. Their top goalscorer this season is the impressive David Dalton, who has been in excellent form throughout this season.
Good luck to both sides ahead of tomorrow’s cup final. It’s going to be a good and very competitive game of football, and I am hoping to be there tomorrow, to cover the game on my blog.
