Famous Isthmian League side (step 4), Southall FC (they are one of the oldest football clubs in England) are without doubt the most well known and successful football club from Southall, in west London. However, in the following piece, I’ll be looking at some of the other teams from Southall, who have played non-League/ grassroots football.
Former winners of the Middlesex County Football League Jim Rogers President’s Division One Cup, AFC Southall play their football at step 8 of the non-League pyramid. Last season this talented team finished in second place in Division One West of the Middlesex County Football League, as well as reaching the final of their league cup, for the second season running. One division below AFC Southall, are a well established Southall Athletic side, whose Saturday team plays their football in The Russell Grant Division 2 (step 9), and who have played in the Middlesex County Football League for a number of years. They play their home matches at Cranford Community College.
Wood Lane, of the Middlesex County Football League Premier Division, and Division One side London Tigers, play their home matches in Southall, at the London Tigers Sports Complex. Newmont, who now only compete in the Somali British Champions League, but who have played in the Middlesex County Football League (Saturdays) in the past, are a team from Southall. They recently made it into the semi-final of the SBCL for the very first time.
Old Southall, of Division Four North of the Middlesex County Football Sunday League, also play their home matches at London Tigers Sports Complex, in Southall. And the club which was founded in 2007, have had some great times in league and cup competitions, in the past. Bilal Butt, one of the greatest goalscorers in Middlesex County Football Sunday League history, also used to play for them. There have been several other Sunday league teams from Southall who have competed in the Middlesex County Football League over the years.
