Non-League and Academy football writer

The London Borough of Newham has a long history of grassroots/non-League football clubs playing out of the Borough. Clubs such as the now defunct Beckton United, who played in the old Spartan League, and former non-League club Clapton FC. However, in more recent years, during the 21st century, there have been a number of grassroots/non-League football clubs who either play out of the east London Borough, or who represent the Borough.

Clubs such as Athletic Newham, who play in the Thurlow Nunn League First Division South (step 6), and Essex Alliance Football League side Newham Wanderers, represent the Borough through their name. Former Essex Senior League side London APSA, also for a time, would use the Borough in their club name. London APSA played for a time at the Terence McMillan Stadium, in the Borough. Clubs who have played at that historic ground over the years, includes Canning Town, Fire Christian United, and current home team, London Fennecs, who last season won promotion from the Middlesex County Football League, to step 6.

CSM London FC (step 7) are another non-League side who are from the Borough, along with Clapton Community (step 5), a very well known fan-owned club who play at London’s oldest senior football ground, the Old Spotted Dog Ground, in Forest Gate. And then in Sunday League football, there are also a number of teams who have/are playing in Newham, or who represent the Borough, such as JK Silvertown.
