Non-League and Academy football writer

This is FC Baresi midfielder Archie Flynn’s first season at step 6 of non-League football. The youngster who was promoted from FC Baresi’s reserve side this summer, would in my opinion, put in a player of the match performance during FC Baresi’s 1-1 draw with Enfield Borough on Saturday afternoon. After the game on Saturday, I did a post-match interview with Archie.

Could you talk me through a bit about your background in football?

Archie: I grew up playing Sunday league football for Royals Falcons, based in Beckton. I started playing football for them when I was six, but I actually started off as a striker, before moving to midfield and then centre-back, where I was the captain for a good while. That team would eventually disband and so the goalkeeper Jahnih Bulbrook, who had gone to FC Baresi, told me to come to the club.

I went through the reserves last season, and obviously I’m now with the first team. I feel like it’s a very good opportunity, and I’m happy and proud of my journey in football so far.

What has been your standout moment in non-League football, so far?

Archie: It would probably be getting the call up to the first team. That showed that my hard work really paid off in the reserves, and it has given me that extra boost as well.

What are some of your thoughts on this afternoon’s game?

Archie: I felt like we did well in some parts of the game, but there were some parts of the game which we didn’t do so well at. As a group of players we haven’t played a lot with each other, so it’s just about getting used to one another. But, I feel like we can do much better as a team. We came from behind again today, against Enfield Borough, which isn’t the best thing. So even though I’m not happy with the final result, I’m also not angry with the result either, as a point is good.

What are some of your personal hopes and aims for this season, with FC Baresi? 

Archie: Obviously we want to push for promotion, whether that is winning the league or getting in to the play-offs. We want to do better than we did last season, and maybe even go on a really good cup run and get some silverware, as well.
