An assured and decisive central-defender, Jeremiah Francis put in another impressive defensive performance for FC Baresi on Saturday afternoon against Southend Manor, a game in which he scored in and captained the team for. Thank you to Jeremiah for agreeing to do a short post-match interview with me after FC Baresi’s 2-1 win against Southend Manor.

Could you talk me through a bit about your background in football?

Jeremiah: To be honest, it would mainly be in Sunday football, where I played for JK Silvertown for two seasons.

What has been your standout moment in football, so far?

Jeremiah: It would be playing at The Madejski Stadium (Reading FC), when I was at school. It was a national Under 15’s football tournament. We didn’t win it, but we made it to the final and it was a good stage to play on.

How would you describe yourself as a defender?

Jeremiah: I’d say that I’m aggressive and composed as a defender. I’d also say that I’m a ball player, especially on my left.

What are some of your thoughts on this afternoon’s game?

Jeremiah: I felt like we were the better side from the beginning. We did concede another set-piece, which we’ve been conceding quite a bit over the season so far. But, I thought that we played well, and we had a lot of the ball. In the second half we were really on to them (Southend Manor), and I think that we definitely deserved to win the game.

What are some of your personal hopes and aims for the rest of this season, with FC Baresi?

Jeremiah: Play-offs. That’s the minimum with the side that we’ve got. We’re a young side, who have probably played 15 games together including from pre-season. But, once we mature and everything clicks then we’ll be a tough side to play against. We gave it to Hoddesdon the other week, only losing in the last minute. So to be honest I’ve got big ambitions for this team.
