Camden United FC 4-0 Camden & Islington United FC: (My match report from New River Stadium)

In a big Middlesex County Football League Premier Division north London Derby match, Camden United faced Camden & Islington United at the New River Stadium on Saturday afternoon. After nine league matches played Camden United started this game in first place in the league table, with Camden & Islington United starting this game in 11th place in the league standings, after seven league matches played. Camden United’s fine winning run continued, as they beat their local rivals 4-0 earlier today.

Camden United started this game well. They would soon take the lead early on in this derby match, from a set-piece. As Jameel Murshid’s good free-kick delivery from out on the right flank and into the away team’s box, was headed towards Noah Blackmore’s goal. The Camden & Islington goalkeeper managed to keep that headed effort out of his goal, but on the follow-up Camden United defender George Montgomery would powerfully volley the ball into the goal, 1-0. A couple of minutes later, Mohammed Hassan would skilfully get the ball out of his feet, under pressure, before getting a good effort away on goal (from 23 yards out), which was well pushed onto his crossbar by Noah Blackmore.

Camden United had so far been quite relentless in their pressing, and in their play inside Camden & Islington’s final third of the pitch. Following on from an initial good goalscoring chance which had been created by Camden midfielder Mohammed Al Nashi, the Camden United player would get to the ball again, this time inside the away team’s box. He would then quickly lay the ball off into the path of Nabil Zeitoun, whose powerfully struck low effort (from the left-hand side of the box), would go across goal into the bottom right-hand corner of the goal, 2-0. And with Camden United still dominating this game, they would quickly add a third goal to their tally in plenty of time before half-time.

For their third goal of the afternoon, the influential Nabil Zeitoun would get to the ball following a throw-in into the Camden & Islington box. With plenty of work still to do, Nabil Zeitoun would show some really good quick feet, before curling a good effort into the back of the net, 3-0. The second half of this match was considerably less eventful than the first half, in terms of chances created. Leon Louis’s Camden United side would continue to be the better team, managing their lead quite comfortably against an improved Camden & Islington team. However, late on the home team would score a fourth goal. Substitute Ralford Thorpe would do well to surge forward with the ball down the left-hand side of the away team’s box, before playing the ball across to Matheus Santana, who tapped home from close range at the back post, 4-0. That was Matheus Santana’s 20th goal of the season already!

After what was another professional and clinical performance from the league leaders today, I’m going to name my player of the match as George Montgomery. The Camden United central-defender who I remember from his time at Newbury Forest at step 6, scored a goal and played his part in helping Camden United to keep another clean-sheet.
