Brimsdown FC 1-1 FC Baresi: (My match report from Parkside Stadium)

Brimsdown were looking for their first win of the season when they welcomed an FC Baresi side who were looking to return to winning ways, to Parkside Stadium (Aveley FC) on Friday evening. Brimsdown started this Thurlow Nunn League First Division South fixture in 22nd place in the league standings, with FC Baresi starting this match in 19th place in the league table. This game would end in a 1-1 draw, after Brimsdown scored an equalising goal in the 95th minute of proceedings.

FC Baresi were awarded an early penalty during Friday’s game. Following a good move from the visiting team, David Komolafe would travel inside with the ball from the left flank, before taking the ball forward and playing a pass across to Divine Daniel Uche Nweze down the right-hand side of the Brimsdown penalty area, from where he was fouled and brought down by a defender. A penalty was subsequently awarded to FC Baresi. However, centre-forward Israel Kabengele’s effort into the middle of the goal was ruled out, after his finish with his right foot had hit his left boot before going in.

Although this game had been playing out to be quite end to end with a good pace to it, I thought that FC Baresi were still looking the more likely side to take the lead. Shortly before half-time and after Brimsdown player Jordan Burnett’s powerfully hit effort from the edge of the away team’s box, had been well parried by FC Baresi goalkeeper Olatunde Omotayo, FC Baresi would go on to take the lead shortly afterwards. Olatunde Omotayo’s good and accurate long forward pass was met by FC Baresi’s left winger David Komolafe down the left flank, and although he was followed by an opposition player, the recent FC Baresi signing found himself one versus one with a Brimsdown defender. And after progressing the ball into their penalty area well, he would finish low and calmly beyond the Brimsdown goalkeeper into the middle of his goal.

During the opening stages of the second half of this game, Brimsdown would manage another effort on target. Former Spurs academy player Tarrelle Whittaker would control the ball well, 26 yards out on goal, before getting a good and powerful effort away, which was well saved and then gathered by Olatunde Omotayo. A good while later and FC Baresi player Hussein Farhat’s whipped free-kick effort on the edge of the Brimsdown penalty area and towards the left-hand side of the pitch was hit against Alfie Fitzearle’s crossbar.

Next, an FC Baresi side who were managing their lead well would go on to create a good passage of play. As midfielder Archie Flynn passed the ball out to Hussein Farhat on the left flank, who in turn played a short forward pass into the path of Divine Daniel Uche Nweze, who had run in behind the defence from where he was tripped by a defender. A second penalty was awarded to FC Baresi, with Divine Daniel Uche Nweze powering his effort from the penalty spot, over Alfie Fitzearle’s crossbar. Then soon afterwards, Hussein Farhat’s whipped free-kick effort from 22 yards out would hit the Brimsdown crossbar, as FC Baresi came close again to making it 2-0. However, in the fifth minute of stoppage time Brimsdown would draw level, to get their first point of the season. It came from a very late corner-kick delivery into the busy FC Baresi box, which was headed home and contested well by Brimsdown substitute Lewis Goulbourne, in what was a heartbreaking end to the game for FC Baresi. However, it was a great, late point for the home team, in Brimsdown.

FC Baresi would argue strongly that they should have won this game well before the 95th minute. However, they didn’t take their chances during the second half in particular, despite strong performance across the pitch, including in forward areas. My player of the match on Friday was FC Baresi right-back Richard Arhin, who put in a mature defensive performance for his side.
