FC Baresi 0-2 Stansted FC: (My match report from Wodson Park)

After the heartbreak of conceding a 95th minute equaliser to Brimsdown in their last match, FC Baresi would face third place Stansted, at home (at Wodson Park) on Wednesday evening in the Thurlow Nunn League First Division South. In what promised to be an interesting game of football, it was Stansted who scored two goals in the second half, to win this match 2-0.

Following on from an early Stansted chance from a corner-kick, the early stages of this game were quite uneventful. Once the game had settled however, it was FC Baresi who would create two goalscoring chances in fairly quick succession. Vastly experienced former Premier League footballer and FC Baresi debutant Jay-Alistaire Simpson would turn on the ball after receiving Ilyas Baig’s long goal-kick. The FC Baresi centre-forward would then quickly play the ball out to David Komolafe, who would take the ball forwards down the left-hand side of the Stansted box, before hitting a powerful effort on goal off his right foot, which was well parried by Sam Butler. And then soon afterwards, Anthony Robert Murray-Bruce would powerfully head the ball narrowly wide of Sam Butler’s goal, after connecting with Divine Daniel Uche-Nweze’s corner-kick delivery into the away team’s penalty area.

Before half-time this game would definitely play out to be both competitive and even, although there were no real further chances to report on. But, during the opening stages of the second half Stansted would take the lead. The opening goal of the game arrived from George Hamill’s good corner-kick delivery into the FC Baresi penalty area, as Harry Pittuck’s guided header found the bottom left-hand corner of goalkeeper Ilyas Baig’s goal, 0-1. And then soon afterwards, and following a Stansted counter from an FC Baresi free-kick at the opposite end of the pitch, Harry Pittuck would play the ball over the FC Baresi defence and into the run of Louie Monk, who from the edge of the box, would lob the ball over the outrushing goalkeeper and into his goal, 0-2.

After Stansted player Louie Pullen had been sin-binned, FC Baresi really tried to break down their defence. A good one-two move involving Richard Arhin, would result in the FC Baresi player (from the right-hand side of the Stansted penalty area) connecting well with his effort on goal, which was well turned behind by Sam Butler. However, Stansted would continue to defend strongly and resolutely during the remainder of this game, managing their two goal lead well in order to record an important three points. It was a decent first half of football played by Yannick Kamanan’s FC Baresi side in the first half, but a very well organised Stansted side deserved their win on Wednesday.

Stansted players Louie Monk, Freddie O’Brien and George Hamill were all contenders for my player of the match award this evening, but for his important contribution to this Stansted win, I’m going to award it to Harry Pittuck. For FC Baresi, I thought that David Komolafe (he was arguably their most creative player during his time on the pitch) was their player of the match.
