Lymore Gardens FC 3-0 East Thurrock Community FC: (My match report from Parkside Stadium)

Lymore Gardens (they started this match in tenth place in the league table) looked to returning to winning ways in the Thurlow Nunn League First Division South on Friday evening, when they hosted the league’s third place side, East Thurrock Community, at Parkside Stadium (Aveley FC). Lymore Gardens deservedly won this game 3-0.

After a couple of openings for both sides during the early stages of this match, it was overall a cagey first half. But, soon after Lymore player Tyrique Peters had played an outside of the boot pass out to James Ikotun on the left-hand side of the pitch, with his resulting low effort going narrowly wide, shortly before half-time Lymore took the lead. For that opening goal of the game, Munnir Saad would play a good pass with pace across the floor to James Ikotun who from around 23 yards out from goal, would turn excellently beyond an East Thurrock defender. James Ikotun would just enter the penalty area before then finishing powerfully into the bottom left-hand corner of Max Seymour’s goal, 1-0.

Early on in the second half and Lymore Gardens would double their advantage. For his second goal of the game, this time James Ikotun would win the ball following a loose East Thurrock pass inside their final third of the pitch. James Ikotun would then take the ball forward, where from just inside the away team’s penalty area he would finish low and clinically into the goal, 2-0. What Lymore continued to do during much of the second half was manage this game and their lead really well, by playing their football effectively as a team.

Late on during the match Lymore Gardens would extend their lead further. Lymore substitute Wisley Baltazar would receive a short pass on the turn, before threading a nicely weighted pass into the run of another substitute, in Patrick Clarke. And from in behind the away team’s defence and through on goal inside their penalty area, Clarke would slot the ball into the goal courtesy of a composed finish, 3-0. During the final minutes of the game Lymore Gardens player Munnir Saad would make a very good goal-line clearance as the home team made sure of a perfect win.

Despite competition from Ben Joao, Ryo Brown and Munnir Saad, with his important brace of goals James Ikotun (he started this game off the left flank) was my player of the match on Friday.
