Enfield Borough faced London Fennecs at Wingate & Finchley FC on Tuesday evening, in what was both team’s lates Thurlow Nunn League First Division South fixture. Enfield Borough started this step 6 fixture in 14th place in the league standings (after 14 league matches played). London Fennecs started this game in the relegation zone in 20th place in the standings (after 11 league matches played). This competitive match would end in a 2-2 draw.
Enfield Borough created the first chance of this game, during the opening minutes. Following on from an Enfield Borough corner-kick, the ball was cleared away, but then played forward into the path of Remel Green who was onside and inside the centre of the London Fennecs box. However, his powerful effort on goal was well pushed behind by the London Fennecs goalkeeper, Rayen Chergui. Then in the 14th minute of proceedings and following the awarding of a free-kick some 30 yards out from the Enfield Borough goal, London Fennecs player Ilias Tahraoui would take it. And his exquisite whipped effort on goal would go past the home team’s goalkeeper in unstoppable fashion into the top right-hand corner of the goal, 0-1.
London Fennecs were moving the ball around the pitch well, and soon after having taken the lead in this game they would come close to making it 2-0. As Michael Babarinde’s cross from the right flank was superbly brought down by Mouadh Kermani on the edge of the Enfield Borough box, before turning well and hitting an effort on target which was held by goalkeeper Andrew Zambrano. The next and final real effort on goal before half-time of what had proved to be quite an even end to the first half, came the way of the home side, Enfield Borough. With the highly skilful Alejandro Cardenas surging skilfully into the London Fennecs box, before seeing his powerful low effort on goal be well turned behind by the feet of Rayen Chergui, who did well to make the save.
On to the second half action now, and soon after the second half had got underway Enfield Borough would score an equalising goal. Following a loose pass from a London Fennecs player, Anas Aouimer would get to the ball on the edge of the penalty area before playing a short pass into the path of Remel Green. From down the right-hand side of the box Remel Green would finish low and powerfully past Rayen Chergui, 1-1. Ilias Tahraoui (a couple of minutes after play had resumed) would then whip a good free-kick effort around the Enfield Borough wall, from the edge of the box, which had to be well tipped over by Andrew Zambrano. And then some time later, Ramy Rouighi’s excellently hit effort from over 40 yards out, would hit the top off Andrew Zambrano’s crossbar on its way over.
This game continued to be both well contested and lively in terms of goalscoring chances and action. Next, and a good London Fennecs move which had been started by Yasser Boughrira, would result in Mouadh Kermani playing a pass across to Nacer Nait Sidi Ahmed on the edge of the Enfield Borough box. The London Fennecs substitute’s first time powerful low effort on goal was really well turned behind by the outstretched Andrew Zambrano. Yet, from the following corner-kick delivery by Mouadh Kermani into the box, the ball would find Youcef Mezaoui on the left-hand side of the penalty area. His good curling effort hit Andrew Zambrano’s crossbar, before rolling out into the path of Mouadh Kermani. His powerfully hit low effort from the edge of the penalty area took a slight deflection off an opponent, before nestling into the bottom left-hand corner of Zambrano’s goal, 1-2.
A couple of minutes after London Fennecs had retaken the lead and with approximately 15 minutes still to play, Scott Durojaiye’s Enfield Borough side would draw level again. Tahvae Hunte would get to a bouncing ball well, before hitting a brilliant effort towards the London Fennecs goal from distance. His powerfully hit, dipping effort would hit the underside of Rayen Chergui’s crossbar. But, on the follow-up and inside the penalty area, Remel Green would get to the ball before skilfully back-heeling it beyond the goalkeeper and into the back of the net, 2-2.
Both sides tried their best to find a late winner, but the scores would remain 2-2 (London Fennecs player Obinna Nebuwa was sent off very late on). An eventful game of football between two very talented footballing sides, it was arguably a fair result in the end, although London Fennecs will be very frustrated with the final result. My player of the match award goes to impressive Enfield Borough player Remel Green, who scored both of their goals. For London Fennecs, I thought that Mouadh Kermani was their player of the match.
