Last Sunday there were a lot of matches taking place across the Middlesex County Football Sunday League. Starting with the Premier Division results, there was an interesting and high scoring match between last season’s title winners Club Assyria and recently promoted side Hennessys, on Sunday of last week. That match would end in a 3-3 draw, with Bilal Butt (x2) and Marco Raposo getting Club Assyria’s goals on the day. Staying with the Premier Division, and Grenfell Athletic beat Egham Stags 6-2 (away), Ivy Leaf won 12-1 at home to One Brotherhood, and Venceremos and Whitton Wanderers would play out a 2-2 draw.
In Division One, goals from Zac Khlaf, Matthew Phillips and Alexander Young helped Chiswick Celtic to a 3-1 home win over Sandgate as they made it two wins from two in the league. Also, Heathrow Club won 2-0 against Uxbridge Athletic, with Larkspur Rovers beating Ryefield 1-0, and FC Phoenix getting up and running for this season with a 4-2 away win over West London Athletic. In Division Two West Drayton beat Dar United 5-1 away, and Grove Park Rangers also recorded an emphatic win, as they won their away fixture with Hillingdon United 6-0. The other Division Two fixture (Oliver Donoghue got four goals in this game) saw Wishing Well Wanderers beat CB Hounslow & Abbots (Sundays) 8-0.
There were also some big wins for teams in Division Three, starting with Hillingdon Stags, who won their away league fixture with London Tigers 7-1. At Coney Green Heathrow Club Reserves won 3-1 against Jugg Boyz, Frost Lions beat Old Southall 4-3, and Whitton Wanderers Reserves won 2-1 away to Bedfont FC Dons. In Division Four Chiswick Celtic Reserves won 4-3 at home to Townmead Reserves, Bedfont Sunday Reserves beat Hearts of Teddlothian 2-0, away. In addition, Larkspur Rovers Reserves won 4-1 against AFC Heathrow, Wishing Well Wanderers Reserves beat Sporting Staines 4-1, and Uxbridge Athletic XI beat Grove Park Rangers II by the same scoreline.
Finally, in county cup competitions there was a 2-1 home loss for CB Hounslow & Abbots (Sundays) Reserves to Argentina FC 2nds, in the preliminary round of the Middlesex County FA Sunday Junior Cup. In the preliminary round of the Middlesex County FA Sunday Intermediate Cup, Club Assyria Reserves won 1-0 at home to Richmond Saints, to progress into the next round. This Sunday I’m looking at doing a match report on the One Brotherhood versus Hayes End Athletic Premier Division fixture, which is my highlighted league fixture of the week.
