Instead of writing a weekly round-up of all the Middlesex County Football League action from the week just gone, I thought that I’d write an update on how the league’s Premier Division is shaping up as we approach November. With eight wins, two draws and zero defeats (their 2-1 loss to Kodak was voided) so far, Camden United are currently at the top of the league table. On 26 points so far this season, Leon Louis’s Camden United (they are also still in two cup competitions) side are one point above recently promoted side FH Whistlers, who after the same amount of matches played, are enjoying a great season so far. Yusuf Khalaf’s talented and youthful Wood Lane side are in third place in the league standings, with a record of six wins, two draws and one defeat.
One place and one point below Wood Lane after ten league matches played are Sporting Duet, who are closely followed by Harrow United, and then another side who I very much expect to really challenge for the league title and promotion, in Hayes & Hillingdon. In this now 16 team division, after Eagles Land Cricklewood sadly folded recently, around the mid-table places of the division after Kodak (Harrow), are Stonewall and Camden & Islington United. They are followed by Premier Division debutants Hayes & Yeading B (on 11 points) and then Larkspur Rovers and Kensington Dragons, respectively.
In 13th place in the league table are a talented Apollo London side, who recorded a good recent 3-1 over LBS Lions at the weekend, and they are a team who I think could go far in this season’s Alec Smith Premier Division Cup. Explorers FC, who are another recently promoted side, have played six league matches so far this season, and they are in 14th place, above LBS Lions and then Indian Gymkhana Club in the table. I wrote about this before the start of the season, but I really do think that this Premier Division season will continue to play out to be one of the most competitive and unpredictable season’s in recent years. There is so much quality in this league!
Finally, the league’s top goalscorer at this early stage of the season is Camden United striker Matheus Santana, who incredibly has 22 goals in all competitions from 12 appearances.
